For 103 years, Holden and Company Insurance has called DC home. Four generations later, we are still growing here at home and across the country. It’s been a long journey and we look forward to the next chapter of growth and service to the history of our agency.
With a growing staff, a newly renovated building on Fairfax St, a growing book of business, and new producers John Lewis and Chris Knoche, Holden & Company has situated itself firmly within D.C.’s business community. Our goal is simple: treat our customers like neighbors, not numbers, just like Charles did more than a century ago.
With over 20 years of experience and a nationally recognized book of business, Scott and his wife Landon rebranded the agency name and service model to reflect the roots his great-grandfather had built nearly 100 years prior. With the help of Paul Duncan and Jackie Short, Scott and Landon broke away from outside ownership and re-established Holden & Company Insurance on the same street Charles opened his doors.
The Holden legacy continued into the mid-90’s when Charlie’s son, Scott Holden, arrived on St. Asaph St. with his recent risk management graduate degree from The New York College of Insurance. Scott joined Vinny, Ann, Dave, and Charlie as a broker and producer of new business.
With a staff of more than 25 employees, Charlie took advantage of an opportunity to collaborate with London based agency Hogg Robinson. With their new partner, Holden & Company expanded their operations and services.
As Alexandria transformed from an old colonial port to a modern city, the early 60’s marked the first major expansion for the once boutique local business. Transitioning to the third generation of the Holden family, Charles III, more commonly known as Charlie, took over from his father’s partners. With the help of young partners Dave Wysong, Ann Gary, and Vinny Allen, Charlie and company grew the agency near thirty fold.
Holden & Company saw its first transition of authority when Charles’s son, Charles Jr., joined the agency along with fellow Alexandria natives Thomas Moncure and Milton Leadbeater.
Charles F. Holden founds Holden & Company Insurance and Real Estate on St. Asaph St. in present day Old Town, Alexandria. Located just blocks away from the Virginia Marine Railway and Shipbuilding Company, the U.S. Naval Torpedo Factory, and one of the busiest ports in the nation at the time, Holden carved out a niche working to serve the diverse and growing community.
